As a gift to his brother Theo, Vincent painted one of his favourite subjects: large, flowering branches set against a blue sky. He painted it to celebrate the birth of his godson, who was also named after him, Vincent Willem. He had in mind that the work could be hung over the bed of Theo and his wife. As a symbol of young life, Vincent chose the branches of the almond tree, one of the earliest flowering trees as early as February that announce spring. The subject, the sharp outlines, and the placement of the tree in the picture plane is evidence of the inspiration Van Gogh found in Japanese woodblock prints. The Fleurir Towel range is made from 100% Cotton. Printed in blue, teal, green, cream, and off white colour tones.
